Weekly Journal#10

This week only had one class, however, I feel like I had more work to do. The only class I had on Tuesday, I provided a framework of my proposal. That post briefly talked about the format of my proposal. I mostly followed the textbook example, and I did some change because I don’t know how to perform tasks in my subject. My subject is to proposal students use visual studio. Instead, I changed the tasks into advantages/tools, and then I changed the experience into some other factors. I have no idea if those changes are right to do, but …

It was another busy week. Last week I have decided my topic and found one source which I will use for my topic. On Tuesday, I needed to refine my topic with 3 useful tools (debugging, separating files and auto-completing) of Visual studio that I will talk about in the proposal. They are unique because if students code with text editors, they won’t have these tools to help them code better. Considering most CS students are new to programing language, they need a tool that is easy to use. On Thursday, I provided some more details about how it will …

Weekly journal#8

I was pretty busy moving my house, and I had to study for some upcoming tests, so I posted this journal late. The nice thing is that the professor decided to push back the class for one day, so that we could all catch up a little bit. I used that day to finish my lab report. I think my format is really close to a lab report format. The only thing I didn’t do well is the resource researching. I had trouble on that one because the topic of my lab report is really new — about “COVID 19”. …

This week we mainly focused on our lab report. I handed in the first draft on Tuesday. The draft sticked with the format the book shows. It has a title, but I personally think the title could be improved, my peer also said that when we were doing peer review on Thursday. My draft didn’t have a cover page, and I am thinking about to have to because one of my classmates used it, and it looks good on a lab report. You can either use a picture or just a title, so people can know your subject directly. The …

For the first class of this week, I have learned how to improve title and abstract. For titles, we need to be more specific rather than just having one or two words there. The text book gave two good examples to show us what is a weak title and what a strong title. We should include some of the key words where people are searching the most in our title. For abstract, I like the informative style better. What you have to do is to conclude one or two sentence for each paragraph. In this way, people can easily know …

Weekly journal#5

I decided to post the journal today because I kept forgetting that I need to post on the weekend. For this week, I have written an email to the professor, and that marked the end of the group assignment. I honestly reported how everyone was doing in the email. I realized I could’ve done a lot of better as a topic supervisor. I should not just made the schedule, and I also should’ve made a writing sheet to assign each one a piece of writing in this memo. So that we wouldn’t have someone to not do his/her job. And …

I had a little break this week because there was no class on the 13th, however, I had two midterms in that week, so I was still kind of busy. Updating to the group assignment. We had a discussion on reflecting on how we did on the memo. This was not to discuss about how well we did, or what we did so far. This discussion is more about which part of the memo we can improve. First, we all agreed that we need to change our audience/reader to MTA, but not the professor. And then we realized that we …

This is a basically a report about this week. I got an new assignment which is to write a memo as a team. I was assigned the role Topic supervisor, I believe that I did fine at my role. I provided a schedule sheet for my team, and I check their work every night by sending message. The resource director is very passionate, and the submission manager is very responsible. We submit the work yesterday, so far we are not behind the assignment according to the sheet. This is a complain. I just got 0 points out of 10 for …

In this week, I had a short break that I don’t need to do anything else, and all I need to do is to finish the technical description assignment. I have read two of my peers draft, and I have learned from their problems and merits. In Cristal’s draft, I can definitely see that my draft is a little too short, and that is because I didn’t describe my mechanism enough. If I can do what she did in her draft, my description will be a more detailed description. What I did good is that my page looks more clearly …

Hi, I would like to first introduce myself in the week#1 journal. I am Xiaohu Zheng. I major in CS. I like to code and want to create good apps and games in the future. I like playing video games, especially team game. I am very concentrated when I study and play games, and so that I have bad health because I never take care of my body. I am in an engineering writing class now, which is the main reason I am writing this. For the first week, I have learned the eight main elements of an article, and …
