What is a vertical mouse?
A vertical mouse is taller than a standard mouse. Unlike the mice you have seen before, its height is larger than its width. Instead of lying on the table, it “stands” on the table. Most vertical mice have a standard size with a height around 3 inches, a length about 5 inches and a width about 2.5 inches, so that it will fit most people. The designing is very ergonomic, just by looking at its shape, you know it can keep your hand in a neutral position. It is designed to rest your wrist, so it is more like an evolutionary version of mouse. They support for both wired and Bluetooth, and they have both work type and gaming type.

You can see the right and left buttons lie on the right side of the mouse. They do exactly what the traditional mice do.

The next page and previous page buttons sit on the left side of the mouse. You can use them for viewing web pages, or you can change them to quick key buttons for gaming. The DPI switch button is on the top of the mouse, so that you will not easily click them by accident. You can use the DPI switch button to adjust the mouse speed to the one that is the best for you. With most vertical mice, they usually support DPI to 1600. Some gaming vertical mice support DPI up to 10000. And those type of mice usually have one more functionality – a rocker.

A rocker sits on the top of the vertical mouse because it is the best position for thumb to control it. It is extremely helpful because it can replace 5 MOST important keys in keyboard – WASD and space key. This means that you can play most FPS (First-person shooter) games with just a mouse. The space key button is in the center of the rocker, and it is also because it is the best position
where our thumbs can press. This type of vertical mouse is usually heavier and has RGB light because they are designed only for gaming.
It has all the functionalities as you do with a standard mouse, even a gaming mouse. Some functionalities ONLY appear in a vertical mouse. We can have a rocker with its new shape. If you add a rocker in a traditional mouse, it will look inappropriate, and it will also generates more pressure for your wrist. It reshapes the standard mouse to a better version. Instead of putting your hand flat, you hold the mouse vertically.

Using a traditional mouse will create a lot of pressure to your wrist. More specifically, they will pressure your median nerve – A never on the hand wrist. If it takes much pressure, your hands will feel numb or pain. See the image on the right, the orange dots are the parts where get pressured. However, using a vertical mouse can reduce the risk of it. It keeps the forearm and wrist at a neutral rest position. Using a vertical mouse is more comfortable because your hands will feel less tired by not getting much pressure.
It has the shark like appearance. It is less stressful for your hand. It may take some time for you to get used to a new mouse, but it is definitely worth for your health. With all the buttons together, you can use it for gaming and for work. Just buy one for your wrist. Do not be the next carpal tunnel patient!
